Being told she was too heavy to become a class leader gave Gillian Killeen the impetuous to tackle her weight loss with gusto. “I saw an advertisement for Unislim leaders in the local paper but when I made enquiries, I was told I'd need to lose at least a stone before they'd consider me.” Gillian managed this quickly, and once undergoing her leader training, the motivation was there to keep going, passing her first target with ease to slim down further.
“Becoming a leader really helped me with my own battle. Not only do I have to practice what I preach, but I've also picked up some great tips from my own members. And whether leading talks or listening as part of a class, there's always something to learn.”
Working as a pharmaceutical rep, Gillian's job involves a lot of eating out. “And hunting out the healthy options was one of my biggest Unislim challenges.” A get up and go kind of lady, Gillian quickly found a solution to her problem. Instead of dining on sandwiches and other high GI foods, Gillian now lunches in places where she can get a salad bowl, and when ordering in restaurants asks for dressing to be served on the side.
Husband Ian has been a great support to Gillian's slimming endeavors too. “Breakfast is fruit salad and yoghurt, which Ian looks after,” she says. “And he's benefited from Unislim's low GI regime too, losing a stone without even trying!” “And there's one further benefit that being on this Unislim plan has helped me with,” Gillian continues. “I had back surgery last year and they encouraged me to exercise. If I hadn't been trying to lose weight, and encouraged to get out and walk, it would've been much harder to get me off the sofa!”
