I had always been overweight as a child and as a teenager and was fed up! I needed to lose weight for health reasons as I was becoming out of breath walking up the stairs and there is a history of diabetes and heart problems in the family.
My friend Margaret told me about Unislim classes starting in Mountmellick and asked me would I go along with her. We both went to our first class in April 2010 and at my first weigh in I was 15 stone 8 lbs.

I knew I was overweight but honestly never once thought I was the weight my consultant informed me I was on that day - Almost 26 stone. I knew it was now do or die. I couldn't believe I had allowed this problem to reach such extreme proportions.

Even though I love life and consider myself to be a happy bubbly person, it was my weight that hindered me in all areas of my life. Stunning young bank official Nicola Bleakley has the world at her feet. At 22 years of age she is the first ever All-Ireland Unislimmer of the Year - having reduced her weight by an incredible seven stones. In just one year the determined young woman from Newtownards, Co Down, completely turned her lifestyle around.

My name is John Conroy and I am an 18 year old student from Tullamore. As a child I was never big, but my weight started to fluctuate during my teen years. I never paid any attention to it, even though I should have because it was getting worse and worse. It wasn’t until Christmas 2003 and New Year 2004 that I started to think about how serious it had got.
I could only shop in the one shop in town as it was the only shop that did my size (48” trousers). That’s when I made up my mind and a friend and I decided to join Unislim.

From as far back as I can remember I was always a big girl. Being overweight was part of who I was. Even though I was extremely overweight I never let my weight bother me.

Nicky’s feels younger than ever!
