The welcome letter on the site says it is possible to lose 2 stone by Christmas (was this written for me??).  Anyhooo, am so motivated and just can't wait to see my hubby's face when I slip into a sexy little black dress..... or out of it!!

Hi Katie,

Have had few of those tough times.  I've been with Unislim for a while, had a great start, then seemed to lose it and have been messing around with a few pounds with ages, seem to lose them and then put a few back on and then stay steady - it is so depressing!
A few weeks ago at a class, I had a huge loss - I had worked very hard as I was after putting up weight on holidays and in subsequent weight-ins.  While waiting for the class to begin I was chatting to the girl next to me.  She's been there almost as long.  Every week she is down 1/2 lb or 3/4 lb and is always so disappointed as she works very hard at it.  I've had a few of these large weight losses before and she remembered that.  But in comparing notes, we discovered that her consitent loss of 1/2 lb and 3/4 lb a week added up to nearly an extra half stone to me with 2 or 3 losses of 5,6 or 7 lbs and then loads of weeks where I've been up a lb or 2.
If you lost an average of a lb between now and Christmas, you'd be down a stone - I started noticing my clothes looser after about 10 lbs.
Do you eat breakfast?  It really does make a difference - I eat porridge every morning - even in the summer.  Nothing else fills me as well for as long.  I usually bring a bag to work with me with apples, oranges, plums and a banana.  They're there for me to snack on when I've either hungry or bored or stuck in something and dying to eat!  I bring my lunch with me most days as well.  I started that a few months back and have noticed that if I stay away from bread, my weight loss is better - I bring either a pitta bread with tuna & salad or a rice salad - cooked rice with tuna and veg, left go cold.  If I forget lunch, I try to stick to wraps, or else I get a sachet of soup - they're quite big and very filling - just keep an eye on the nutrition values, there can be quite a difference.
My saviour is the unit-free soup.  I make a huge saucepan of that once a week, put it into cartons and freeze some.  Then every evening, I get in, stick one into microwave, change my clothes and then have that.  It fills me long enough to cook.  For dinner, I often have a chicken stir-fry, I usually eat it with noodles as find them better value.  If I have units left, I have a glass of wine.
I find when I do all of this, I haven't any craving for treats.  But once I succomb to having a treat, I seem to upset my system and I start getting cravings.
I try to get exercise every day as well, and think it's all going better for me now that I've done that.  My usual is a walk at lunch-time - 25 mins or so and another one in evening - about 30 mins.  At weekends, I get longer ones in.  I also try a bit of skipping - but it's hard going!
What I find about clothes is I had some clothes which were tight, they're now fitting me and even loose, so I have something to wear going out - I haven't bought much since I started all this, few bits for holidays - and I was down a size!!  And now even those are a bit loose.  Even though I have loads to loose yet, I do feel better and I can see the difference myself, my face is tighter, chin isn't as double!  And the rolls at my midriff are almost gone - it was the first time in a lifetime of loosing and gaining weight that I got those rolls - and they were my motivation for going this time.
Also, if it still doesn't work for you, take your diary into your leader.  Sometimes they can see what the problem is.
I've stopped setting myself targets like 2 stone by Christmas - for me, it's almost like a demotivator.  (People differ!)  So I just look to loose 1-2 lbs for next week.  In my class there are people who set targets for weddings and such things and it really works for them - just not for me!
Best of luck with it.  Do stick with it, it really does work and any weight-loss feels brilliant.

Hi girls!

If anyone from Unsilim head office is reading this - is there any sign of reintroducing the Unslim magazine into the Northern Ireland based classes.  I haven't seen a copy of the mag in a very long time, which is a shame as I loved reading the success stories and found them inspirational!

Ps: think the new website is great & love the forums!

Got weighed in yesterday and was up 2lbs! Didn't expect this weight gain and told my leader that i had been really good. It's not the time of the month, I've followed the plan and I'm exercising. So good in fact, that i have been going to the gym too. So here's my question... you know the way they say you can gain weight from exercising as fat is heavier than muscle etc. But just how much heavier? I know I shouldn't be so hung up on the scales but can a few sessions in the gym really mean that I'll weigh more on the scales. Sure I might look more toned, but stilllll.............frustrated x

That's so disappointing for you.  I don't think a few gym sessions will do that - sorry!!  (But then again I'm not an expert either)
Were you good last week as well?  Sometimes we can "get away" with a bad week and it pays us back the following week.  I've had brilliant weeks where I've been down 1/4 pound and then less than good weeks where I've been down 2lbs.  But if I trace back more than a week, I can see why in both cases.  I also have a habit of having a treat (or 2 or 3) the night of a weigh-in, and while that can be absorbed in the early weeks, I think it starts to not be absorbed as the weeks move on.
It's terribly disappointing to have a bad result after a good week - but don't go off the rails.  I did that some time ago, after being really good over a holiday weekend and seeing nothing for it - even though my head told me I'd see it next week, my mouth had a different idea and I scoffed everything in sight afterwards - and was up the next week.
Good luck with the week.  And even when I'm having bad results, I focus on my looser clothes and my looser wedding ring - they're more real than a number on the scales!

Hi Stella
Stop Stop Stop......
Muscle weighs heavier than fat girl. Muscle gives you tone and definition whereas fat just gives you bulges. When you start to exercise you usually convert 7lbs of fat into 7lbs of muscle. You may not show a minus on the scales but you should have inches lost.
You should also feel better and be more toned. Dont stop exercising because you will soon have a minus on the scales, but also a better tone definition and a better mind. Make sure you are using all your units and I mean all of them. Muscle burns calories far more effectively because it's a more vibrant tissue.
Very interested to know how you get on this week:)

Hi All,
I have been a class leader for just 6 months and am new to the forum. This is a wonderful resource for members and leaders. My numbers have built up, even the men are coming!which I think is amazing. The results achieved by steady weight loss is even better. The motivation in my class members is high, (some are competing!) and maintained by the fact that I treat them after every stone lost to a small token.I have just attended my second workshop and am planning a class party to celebrate Unislim's 35 years and of course Christmas. Its amazing how many of my mambers didn't know Unislim existed that long! It's a real eye opener to them and gives Unislim more power.
Kareena.

Hi

I find the website well organised and a great idea. I only wish that users were more active and that there were more users to make it an even richer/stronger support network.

Thanks. What I thought would be useful on the website is the possibility of downloading the weekly food diary page. Having it helps with motivation. This sounds mad but if I have to write it on a notebook, it just isn't the same. Having the mark of Unislim on the paper makes me motivated to document everything. It's easy to get at class but over the hoidays it is harder. I will try to get to the Kill class if I find it and get a few then for holiday time.

Well done Feefee! I was flying along like you too, having started at the beginning of December. I was just hoping not to have gained too much over the holidays. Just got back to Ireland tonight and weigh in is in 6 days so I have some time ahead to repair any damage done! I am planning more vigorous exercise and keeping to my points. I was very strict with my points before going away and found it easy. A few of the days away I went over with my points and although I tried to walk a little everyday and drink water and keep alcohol to a minimum, I had the feeling that I was majorly overeating. I don't think I have gained any more than about two pounds though and I am happy with that. I weighed myself over the time and I feel in less of a panic now and ready to take up where I left off. Hopefully it will work. Keep up your good work and well done!

I'm just back from my first class of 2008 and was so looking forward to a new plan etc and the new plan looked great until my leader informed the class that we would have to pay for the new unit guide.  I would be lost without my unit guide as I take it everywhere with me but if feel pretty miffed that we are being charged for the new one.  Surely if this part of the plan it should be included in our weekly fee like most literature.  If you decide tostill follow the old plan how can you be sure the unit value you are counting is correct as it may have changed in the ne guide? It wasn't too bad when we were asked to pay for the 3+2 jotters instead of getting the free food diary sheets  but I think this is just a bit much!   I really enjoy my class, the laugh that we have amongst each other & the encouragement between us and our class leader is great but  I just feel at the minute that that we're not getting value for money!!!!!

It does sound a bit much. How much do the new unit books cost?

Yeah I thought it was a bit weird myself - I started back yesterday.  But the way I look at it is, if the old plan worked for you and if you were eating healthy foods as per the food pyramid that they have in all the plans, then why not stick to it?  Surely there's not going to be a huge difference.  I'm not going to go to the bother of trying to figure out the new units in foods now when I have a fairly good idea of everything - its way too much hassle and I've done well up to now on the original plan.

It may be good for someone who has been struggling or for new members starting, but for me, I'm sticking to what I know best

PS Was only up 2 and a half pounds yesterday, can't believe it!!  One girl in the class lost a pound over the Christmas!!

How much do the new units system cost? Sounds very different. I guess I will have a look at it before deciding. I only joined at the start of December so it may not perturb me too much. It would be interesting to set up a thread of comparison between people doing the old and the new units and see the statistics and what works best. I am sure both must be efficient and effective though.
