The fact of the matter is, we are losing all sense of what a ‘normal’ portion looks like, and our waistlines and health are suffering as a result. We’re becoming a nation of supersized people and, sadly, so are our kids.
The thing is that we are the ones who need to take control – we can’t rely on the manufacturers because, let’s face it, their bottom line is making a fast buck. Big portions are on offer because they are relatively cheap for manufacturers to produce, and they make us feel as if we’re getting good value for our money.
At the end of the day, bigger portions sell so it’s up to us to go cold turkey and get back to reality. Like many things in life, we need to wake up to the fact that we’re simply being seduced by quantity rather than quality.
Recent American research shows that, compared with standard servings in 1982, US hamburgers today are more than double the size they once were; bagels and steaks are around three times as big; servings of pasta are nearly six times the size they once were and the chocolate chip cookies is up to eight times bigger! OMG - no wonder our waistlines have been expanding!
Time to wise up! Good things come in small packages remember! At Unislim classes, your leader will show you what an actual portion looks like and, more often than not, there are waves of panic as so many members realise that they have been serving themselves food in much larger portions than they should. Don’t worry...we’ve all been there. It’s a simple case of re-educating yourself and opening your eyes up to see how much is enough.
At Unislim, we delight in the good news that we don’t need to tell people to eat less. In fact, we love being able to rejoice in our love of food and, instead, we encourage you to simply eat more of the types of foods that are healthier and do more to prevent hunger, with room left over for a one or treats every day (oh yes, we do love our YUMz).
When given the option, it’s just a question of getting into the habit of always asking for the smaller size (or the regular size if there is no small). Remember, we often need less food than we think. Just wait ten minutes or so and, nine times out of ten, you’ll see that you’re actually full and don’t need anymore!
Our motto is to always enjoy your food, but in moderation.
