“I made it my New Year’s resolution just over a year ago to lose the weight I’d gained after having three children. I joined Unislim because my mother was a member and lost six stone, and seeing results like hers was a real inspiration. I never thought I’d actually enjoyed losing the weight but I really did. I used to play football with Monaghan Ladies, and I have all-Ireland medals and everything, but I was never as fit as I am now. I go running and to the gym, and I absolutely love it. I’m even hoping to run the half-marathon in Barcelona in February!”

Family Matters

“My husband has been brilliant. He’s so supportive and pushes me to keep focused on my goals, especially when I don’t feel like it. I really believe the support of your family and the rest of the class is so important; it gets you through those times when you’re feeling slightly weaker.

“If you think that you need to lose weight, I’d really advise joining a class. I feel so much better in myself, I’m more confident and I have way more energy to run after my kids!”

Kitchen Confidential

· Breakfast: “I usually have a Weetabix and milk, with a glass of orange juice. And sometimes an apple.”

· Lunch: “I usually have two slices of Ryvita with Laughing Cow cheese spread.”

· Dinner: “Dinner can be either a salad with lettuce, tuna, beetroot, tomato, pineapple, egg and  fat-free vinaigrette all mixed together, or a piece of fish or chicken with vegetables.”

· Snack: “When I’m in the mood for a snack I reach for a Special K bat.”

Martina’s Top Tip

“I have a takeaway every Friday and that’s my thing. I make sure I work it off during the week and it means I’m not denying myself my treats.”
